Bark, Brian

Brian Stuart Bark

Bark, the son of former minor leaguer Gerald Bark, pitched in three games for the Boston Red Sox in 1995. He later was a member of the New York Mets scouting team.

Birth and Death Dates:
b. August 26, 1968

Career Highlights:
After a terrific high school career at Randallstown (Md.) High School, Bark attended North Carolina State and became one of the greatest players in the history of the ACC. He played for the Wolfpack from 1987-90, and is still among the all-time conference leaders in hits (323 - eighth), runs (265 - fourth), doubles (70 - ninth), RBI (199 - 17th), and saves (20 - seventh)! Brian is also in the NCAA College World Series record book for getting six hits (tied for first all-time) in a 1988 tournament game against Florida.

In 1990, Brian was selected in the 12th round of the MLB Draft by the Atlanta Braves. He had previously been drafted by his hometown Baltimore Orioles out of high school, but had not signed with them. Strictly a pitcher as a professional, Bark threw a one-hitter while at AAA Richmond and finished the year 12-9 with a 3.67 ERA, though he led the league in walks. Despite his obvious skills, Brian was nonetheless stuck in Richmond because Atlanta's major league starters were among the best in baseball.

Bark was finally released in 1995 and immediately signed with the Boston Red Sox as a free agent. That season, Brian pitched in three games for the Bosox, yielding no runs and only two hits in 2.1 innings. Unfortunately, that was his only major league action, as the Sox decided to send him back to the minors for the 1996 season. He refused the assignment and became a free agent, but never returned to the big leagues.
