Roger Howard Samuels

Samuels, a lefty hurler whose father is Jewish, pitched for the San Francisco Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates in the late 1980s. Roger, who was a star at Santa Clara University, now directs a summer baseball camp through Santa Clara called Camp With the Pros.

b. January 5, 1961

Career Highlights:
In 1988, Samuels debuted in the majors with the San Francisco Giants and had a solid season. In 15 relief appearances, he finished 1-2, with a quite decent 3.47 ERA. The southpaw did not last with the Giants, however, and pitched for the Pittsburgh Pirates the following year. Roger struggled with the Pirates, appearing in only 5 games with a 9.82 ERA. He did not play in the big leagues after the 1989 season.
