Anthony Michael Cogan

Career Highlights:
A high school star who threw three no-hitters for Highland Park High School, Cogan attended Stanford University before playing professionally. During his career with the Cardinal, Tony appeared in a school-record 107 games (all but one were in relief) and had a four-year record of 18-7 with a 3.71 ERA and 15 saves. An economics major, Tony was named honorable mention All-Pac 10 as a senior in 1999.

After completing his college career, Cogan was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 12th round of the 1999 Amateur Draft. In 2000, he played with three different teams in the Royals organization and registered a 9-7 overall record with an impressive 2.85 ERA. In 2001, Cogan started the year with the Royals before being sent down to the minors. Tony returned to the majors in mid-season, and appeared in 39 games. Cogan had a record of 0-4 with a 5.84 ERA before being sent back down to the minors in August. Tony then appeared in nine games for Omaha of the Pacific Coast League, where he registered a 1-1 record, with 2 saves and a 2.79 ERA.

In 2002, Cogan played in the Royals' minor league system for the Wichita Wranglers, for whom he appeared in 17 games (starting 16). Tony went 4-6 with a 3.47 ERA in 90.2 innings; he also racked up 62 strikeouts. On September 7, however, the Kansas City organization released Cogan. Prior to the 2003 season, Cogan was signed by the St. Louis Cardinals and was assigned to the club's AAA affiliate, the Memphis Redbirds. Placed on the disabled list in mid-April after shoulder surgery, he was released by St. Louis on June 13 and did not play the rest of the season.
