Salz, Harvey

Salz had a terrific three-year career at the University of North Carolina, scoring in double digits all three seasons, and leading them to the NCAA tournament in 1959.

Career Highlights:
In 1958, Salz averaged 10.2 points per game, grabbed 100 rebounds (3.8), and led the team in free throw percentage (.762) and North Carolina finished ranked No. 12 in the UPI poll (No. 13 AP) with a record of 19-7 (10-4 in conference).

The following year, Salz scored 11.8 points per game, grabbed 110 rebounds (4.4), and had 64 assists (2.6). The Tar Heels finished with a record of 24-4 and ranked No. 6 in the UPI (No. 9 in AP). UNC was the regular season ACC champion and advanced to the NCAA tournament despite North Carolina State winning the conference tournament (NC State was on probation, so they could not play in the NCAA). In the first round of the East Region, Salz scored 14 points and grabbed 5 rebounds, but fouled out in the Tar Heels' 76-63 loss to Navy.

In 1960, Salz was the captain of the Tar Heels team which garnered a record of 18-6 (12-2 in conference). Harvey averaged 13.0 points per game and grabbed 63 rebounds (2.7). Salz finished his career with an 11.6 points per game average and 273 rebounds (3.7) in 74 games.
