Career Highlights:
An incredible scorer at VMI. Halberstadt was one of the Southern Conference's best players in the early 1960s. In his sophomore season (1960), he finished sixth in the conference in scoring with 18.6 points per game and was named All-Southern Conference second team. Unfortunately, VMI as a team did not play well and finished 4-16 (3-11 in conference). The following year saw little improvement for the Keydets, but Halberstadt continued his brilliance, playing even better. He was again named All-conference second team, scoring 23.1 points per game, second in the conference! In 1962, VMI improved and finished 9-11 (6-8 in conference), and Halberstadt had a terrific senior season. He was named All-conference second team, second team All-tournament, and also made All-America honorable mention while scoring 22.4 points per game (the most by any college player in Virginia that year).
