Projansky, Irving

Projansky played at the City College of New York in the late 1910s.

Career Highlights:
A forward, Projansky played three seasons of varsity basketball at City College. Beginning as a sophomore in 1916-17, he was a starter and helped City defeat Yale early in the season by a score of 27-20 by scoring four points (one of Yale's guards was the Charles Taft, son of former president William Howard Taft). Later in the season, City defeated another Ivy League team, Pennsylvania, by a score of 20-18 as Projansky scored eight points (all from the foul line). CCNY finished the season with a record of 12-3.

The following season, Projansky continued his stellar playing, scoring a game-high 12 points in an early season victory over Union, 32-11. Projansky finished the season as the team's leading scorer with 112 points as City had a record of 7-3. By the end of the year, he had shortened his name to Projan and was named the team's captain for the following season.

Projansky captained the 1919 CCNY team - it was the first season that Hall of Famer Nat Holman was coach at City College (Holman continued to coach the CCNY basketball teams until the early 1950s). During the season, Projansky missed some time because he was ill with the flu, but he played well and led the team to a record of 8-4. Unfortunately, he also scored a basket on the wrong basket against Cornell, a game which saw CCNY lost by a score of 21-20.
