Lewis, Frank

Lewis played at Columbia University in the late 1940s and early 1950s, and was a member of the 1951 team that is considered one of the greatest in school history.

Career Highlights:
Lewis was a terrific guard for Columbia from 1948-1951 and was a member of one of the school's greatest teams! After finishing 14-6 (8-4 in conference) in 1949 and 22-7 (9-3 in conference) in 1950, the Lions became one of the best teams in the country in 1951, dominating their opponents. That year, the Lions finished the regular season undefeated (22-0, 12-0 in conference) and were ranked No. 3 in the nation by the AP (No. 5 UPI). They received an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as Ivy League champs; and in the first round of the East Regional, the Lions faced a tough Illinois team (ranked No. 5). In that game, Lewis scored 8 points and added 7 rebounds and 2 assists but the Lions blew a 7-point halftime lead and lost to the Illini 79-71.
