Richard Markowitz

Markowitz was a center for George Washington University in the late 1950s and early 1960s, and helped lead the Colonials to a surprise appearance in the 1961 NCAA tournament.

Career Highlights:
During the years that Markowitz played for George Washington, the Colonials finished 14-11 (4-7 in conference) in 1959 and 16-10 (7-5 in conference) in 1960. In 1961, they won the Southern Conference tournament to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA and and Dick was named first team All-Southern Conference Tournament. Despite the team's rotten 9-16 record prior to the postseason, Markowitz and teammate Jon Feldmanled the Colonials into the NCAA tournament. In GW's first round loss to Princeton., where Dick scored 25 points and snatched 11 rebounds, but the Colonials fell to the Tigers, 84-67 .
