Zippel, Marty

Martin Zippel

Zippel's arrival at Lafayette College in 1945 helped put the school's basketball squad on the map. During his college career Marty was renowned for his all-around game of rebounding, defense, playmaking, and scoring, and excelled in the MAC (Middle Atlantic Conference). He graduated in 1949 as the school's all-time scorer (and was still numbered in the top 25 as of December, 2000). Zippel is a member of the Lafayette Maroon Club Hall of Fame

After graduating from Lafayette, Zippel turned down a baseball contract from the Detroit Tigers, choosing instead to play basketball. Though he was drafted by the Baltimore Bullets of the NBA, Marty instead played for the Wilkes Barre Barons of the ABL.
