Schayes, Todd

Todd Schayes

Until July 2001, Todd was known only as the nephew of Dolph Schayes, and a former player for North Carolina-Greensboro who had, at the age of 35, become a basketball coach and sixth-grade teacher at the Kent-Denver school in Englewood, Colorado. Todd was also a coach at the New York Knicks camp for kids at Basketball City. But when he went to the 2001 Maccabiah Games in Israel, and marched with the American delegation as a Masters (over 35) basketball player, Todd held a sign that said, in Hebrew: "Single Male. American. Looking for Israeli Wife. Contact Todd Schayes at the Tel Aviv Hilton." Since then, Todd, still an a unmarried bachelor in his 30s, has been deluged with requests; as of mid-August, 2001, he had been approached by over 5,000 women or people representing them, despite his insistence that "I have a great face for radio."
