Anita Lynn Kaplan

Kaplan is probably the best Jewish post player in women's basketball history. She was an outstanding center at Stanford University in the mid-1990s before playing professionally.

Career Highlights:
After being named New York High School Player of the Year in 1990 and 1991, Kaplan had a terrific freshman year with the Cardinals. In 1992, Anita was named Pac-10 All-Freshman. She averaged 6.4 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, and was the top reserve off the bench, as Stanford won the National Championship. The following year, she moved into the starting lineup, averaged 10.0 points and 5.1 rebound per game, and was named the team's "Most Improved Player." Over her final two seasons at Stanford, Kaplan was one of the best players in the country. She was All-Pac 10 both seasons, and All-America honorable mention her senior year. Anita was also a member of the gold medal-winning U.S. team at the 1994 Goodwill Games.

Kaplan graduated in 1995, then played briefly in Sweden in 1995-96, averaging 15 points and 8 rebounds per game. She returned to the United States, and was drafted in the third round of the ABL Inaugural Draft by the San Jose Lasers. Anita played two seasons for the Lasers, averaging 10 points and 5 rebounds per game her rookie year, but injuries hampered her during the 1997-98 season. The following year, she was selected by the Chicago Condors in the ABL expansion draft. Kaplan played 12 games for the Condors before the league folded mid-season. She was selected by the Cleveland Rockers in the 2000 WNBA Draft, but was released before the season and decided not to play in the league.
