Krumbein was an All-Ivy League basketball player at Cornell University in the early 1960s. He finished fourth in the conference in scoring his senior season (1963).

Career Highlights:
Krumbein was a regular on the Cornell varsity basketball team. As a sophomore in 1961, his first year on the Big Red squad, he helped the team finish fifth in the Ivy League with a 7-7 mark (14-10 overall). The following year, he was named All-Ivy League honorable mention as Cornell improved to 9-5 in the conference, good enough for a fourth place finish (18-7 overall). In 1963, his senior season, Krumbein was named second team All-Ivy League; he finished fourth in the conference in scoring with 19.2 points per game. Cornell finished fourth in the conference with a record of 6-7 and were 12-12 overall.
