Kardos, Jordan

A shooting guard, Kardos played at the University of Illinois-Chicago and led the Flames to the Horizon League championship and the 2002 NCAA tournament. In 2002, Kardos was named to the All-Horizon League Tournament team. He finished his college career with 1,114 points (12th in school history). Jordan also ranks in the top ten in 3-pointers made (159 -- third), 3-pointers attempted (399 -- third), 3-point percentage (39.8% -- sixth), and free throw percentage (77.4% -- ninth).

Career Highlights:
Kardos was an All-Conference and All-Suburban (Chicago) performer at Glenbrook North High School, and was redshirted as a freshman at the University of Illinois-Chicago in 1997-98. The following year, he played in 27 of the team's 28 games and started 13. During the season, he averaged 7.6 points per game (third on the team) and made 83.3% of his free throws, which still ranks as the seventh best in school history. In a game against Marquette, Kardos made 6-12 3-pointers; he made 29-94 on the season.

As a sophomore in 1999-2000, Kardos played in every game for the Flames and started in ten of them. He was the team's third leading scorer (9.1 points per game), and also registered 2.0 rebounds per game and made 34.4% of his 3-pointers. The following year, Jordan started 16 of 22 games and averaged 9.5 points (fourth on the team) and 1.7 rebounds per game. He led the (MCC) Midwestern Collegiate Conference in 3-point percentage (46.8%), but missed the final five games of the year with a pulled abdominal muscle.

In Jordan's senior season with the Flames, he averaged 12.3 points per game and made 46% of his 3-point attempts (he was ranked in the top five in the nation). Named Jewish Sports Review first team All-America, Kardos added 2.1 rebounds per game and made 82.7% (81-98) of his free throws, tenth all-time in school history. The Flames finished the season with an 8-8 conference record (17-13 overall), in sixth place in the Horizon League.

Seede No. 6 in the conference tournament, the Flames made a surprise run at the title. They defeated UW-Milwaukee in the quarterfinals and then knocked off Detroit in the semifinals. Kardos scored 24 points and made four 3-pointers in the Flames' 79-68 victory over Detroit. Then, in the Horizon League tournament final, Illinois-Chicago upset top seed Loyola 76-75 in overtime to capture the championship and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Kardos was named to the All-Horizon League Tournament team.

In the NCAA tournament, Kardos and the Flames received a No. 15 seed in the West Region. Their opponents were the No. 2 Oklahoma Sooners, the Big 12 tournament champion. In what was only their second appearance in the tournament, the Flames played well, but could not overcome the powerful Sooner team and lost the contest, 71-63. Kardos scored six points in the game.
