Jerry R. Simon

Simon was an All-Ivy League selection in the late 1980s at the University of Pennsylvania. He played in Israel for a number of teams in the 1990s.

Career Highlights:
Simon played four varsity seasons at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1986-87, as a freshman, he was named the team's Outstanding Newcomer and joined center Bruce Lefkowitz to lead the Quakers to the Ivy League title with a 10-4 conference record (13-14 overall). They received an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament and played North Carolina in the first round. Simon played in the game, a 113-82 loss, but did not score.

In 1987-88, Simon and the Quakers could not repeat as conference champions and finished tied for fourth place with a 8-6 record (10-16). The following year, Simon was named All-Ivy League honorable mention; Penn finished in third place with a 9-5 record (13-13 overall).

In Jerry's senior season -- 1989-90 -- he was named All-Ivy League second team and was the team co-captain. The Quakers' leading free throw shooter (93-113, 82.3%), Simon made 7 three-pointers in a game against Brown late in the season. Penn finished in a tie for third place with a 7-7 record (12-14 overall).

Jerry had been a member of the U.S. team at the 1989 Maccabiah Games, and after college, he went to Israel and played professionally. Simon joined Gaili Elyon in 1992-93 when the team captured the Israeli Championship. Simon continued to play in Israel for the next decade, appearing with Betar Migdal Haemek, Elitzur Qiryat Ata, and Hapoel Haifa.
