Career Highlights:
Silver was a senior guard in 1947 when Oregon State was coached by the legendary Slats Gill. A fast-break team built on speed, the Beavers had one of the greatest squads in school history that year. Silver, the smallest man on the team, was a quick player and a great passer who played the point guard position and was often the leader on the fast break. Although he was not known as a scorer, he could meet that challenge when called to action. In a game against rival Oregon, Silver's man left him open, so Morrie looked to score and registered 12 points in an Oregon State victory.

The 1947 Oregon State team, nicknamed the "Thrill Kids," captured the PCC Northern Division title with a 13-3 record. They then clinched their first-ever berth in the NCAA tournament by winning the PCC playoff championship over UCLA. With an overall record of 27-4, they were considered one of the better teams in the competition. In the first round of the West Region, Oregon State lost, 56-54, to Oklahoma, although Morrie scored two points off the bench for the Beavers. Silver started in the Regional consolation game; he scored four points and Oregon State defeated Wyoming, 63-46.
