Matthew Minoff

A senior guard, Minoff is the team captain of the Yale University basketball team in 2003-04. Known for more than his prowess on the court, Matt was an excellent student who received the Richard Derby Academic Award. He led Yale with 2.7 assists per game in 2002-03. After being named captain, Minoff said, "I am extremely honored that my teammates chose me. We have a hard-working and experienced group of guys returning, and I am looking forward to next season."

In Yale's opener in 2003-04, they played then-No. 1 UConn (University of Connecticut) in the pre-season NIT. Yale led at the half, but faltered down the stretch and lost the game, 70-60. Minoff played 31 minutes and grabbed six rebounds while adding two assists, one steal, and one block. Yale finished the regular season with a record of 12-15 (7-7, fourth place in conference). Minoff was fifth on the team with 7.4 points per game. He also averaged 4.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. One of his teammates was Paul Vitelli.

Career Highlights:
Considered one of the best all-around players in the Ivy League, Minoff was the only player in the conference to finish in the top ten in rebounds, assists, blocked shots, and steals during the 2002-03 season. A major part of Yale's 14-13 season, Matt averaged 6.2 rebounds (fifth in the league), 2.7 assists (eighth in the league), 1.6 steals (fifth in the league) and 1.04 blocked shots per game (second). He also scored 7.7 points per game. Minoff was a member of the U.S. basketball team at the 2001 Maccabiah games held in Israel.
