A pioneer player on the first, great CCNY team of the early twentieth century, Kaplan played basketball at City College of New York from 1906-1909.

Career Highlights:
A center, Kaplan played for CCNY in the first decade of the twentieth century. In 1907, only the second year of City basketball, Kaplan and the Beavers had a terrific 8-1 record as they outscored their opponents 267-132; their only loss was to Fordham, 22-13, but during the season, they defeated Stevens 61-7 (Kaplan had ten points in the game).

The following year, the Beavers continued their success with a 9-2 record as they dominated most of their opponents, outscoring them 398-196. In the biggest win in the young program's history, City College defeated mighty Yale by a score of 32-16 and the New York Times recorded that Kaplan, who scored 10 points in the game, shot "two goals from the center of the court in succeeding plays." In Kaplan's senior season, CCNY had a record of 8-3.
