Brill, Harry

Brill played at the City College of New York (CCNY)during the early years of the school's basketball program. He then played professionally in the early 1910s and helped Newburgh win the Hudson River League championship in 1912.

Career Highlights:
While growing up on New York City's Lower East Side in the early twentieth century, Brill began playing basketball at the University Settlement House under the tutelage of Harry Baum. In 1906, Baum coached the intersettlement championship midget team nicknamed the "Busy Izzies," with Brill as one of the key players. On that squad, Harry teamed with future professional greats Barney Sedran and Marty Friedman (both Hall of Famers), Ira Streusand, Lou Sugarman, and Jake Fuller.

Two years later, Brill enrolled at CCNY and played on the freshman team with Sedran, Fuller, and Streusand. He then played played two seasons for CCNY and helped them become one of the most powerful college teams seen up to that time. In 1909, the Beavers had a record of 8-3 and won their final six games of the season. The following year, they finished 6-4. In 1911-12, Brill then played professionally for Newburgh in the Hudson River League, teaming with his former "Busy Izzies" teammates, and helping the squad win the league championship.
