Katzen was one of South Africa's top fights in the 1930s and 1940s as both a bantamweight and lightweight.

Career Highlights:
Katzen started fighting professionally in 1935, and became the South African bantamweight champ in May 1936 by defeating Alec Knight in a 12-round decision. He held the title for only four months before being knocked out by Nick Swart in the 8th-round. Although inactive from 1941-1944, Katzen returned to the ring and became the South African lightweight champion in December 1947 by defeating Jackie Solomons in a 12-round decision. However, Katzen again lost a title shortly after winning it. This time he lost to Jimmy Toweel in a third-round technical knockout. Katzen retired in 1949.
