Birth and Death Dates:
unknown

Career Highlights:
A welterweight in the 1920s, Schlaifer had earned a good enough reputation by 1923 to fight world champion Mickey Walker in a non-title bout in May 1923; he was knocked out in the sixth-round. After fighting Panama Joe Gans in December 1923 (the bout ended in a 10-round no decision), Schlaifer then battled contender Pete Latzo in 1924 and lost a 10-round decision. The following year, Schlaifer had a rematch with Latzo and knocked him out in the third-round; they fought a third time in 1926, with Latzo winning the rubber match (final bout) on a decision. During this time, he also fought welterweight contender Dave Shade five times, but did not beat Shade, losing twice with three no decisions. In 1925, Schlaifer probably had the biggest win of his career when he defeated Hall of Famer Jack Britton in a 10-round decision (although Britton was 40 years old at the time). Schlaifer fought until the mid-1920s and retired having won 28 of 43 career decisions, but never receiving a title shot.
