Stein fought junior-lightweight contender Joe Glick in March 1924 and lost a 10-round decision. He then battled lightweight contender Billy Petrolle twice in the mid-1920s; Stein lost the first bout in a 10-round decision, but the second fight ended in a no decision. By the late 1920s, Stein was fighting as a welterweight and lost to Freddie Mueller in a 10-round decision in January 1928.
