A middleweight in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Wilens fought future IBF world light-middleweight champion Mark Medal in September 1980 and was knocked out in the fourth-round. Two years later, Herbie lost to future New Jersey champion Mike Tinley in a sixth-round technical knockout.
