Career Highlights:
Goldberg began fighting professionally in the mid-1920s. In 1926, he took on Milton Cohen twice, with both fights going six-rounds. Goldberg won the first bout in a six-round decision, and the second bout finished in a draw. The following year, Rube fought former world bantamweight champion Eddie "Cannonball" Martin, but lost a six-round decision. In 1929, the two boxers fought again and the bout ended in a six-round draw.

Between the two fights with Martin, Goldberg fought world flyweight champion Frankie Genaro in a non-title bout. In January 1929, Goldberg was knocked out by the champion, who soon moved up to the bantamweight division. In October of that year, Rube fought another champion, former world junior lightweight title-holder Johnny Dundee. Goldberg lasted the entire bout with the aging Dundee, who was nearing the end of his career, but lost a ten-round decision.

A month after his fight with Dundee, Goldberg was back in the ring against another highly respected opponent. On November 16, he lost to future world lightweight champion Al Singer on a second-round technical knockout. Two years later, Goldberg had his final fight against a top opponent when he knocked out in the third-round against Kid Chocolate, the world junior lightweight champion.
