Career Highlights:
Born in Cincinnati, Mars fought professionally as a featherweight. He fought future world champion Johnny Kilbane twice in the mid-1910s. Both fights took place in Cincinnati and both ended in no-decisions. In September 1914, Mars then fought top contender George "K.O." Chaney and was knocked out in the fifth-round. Mars continued to fight throughout the 1910s, although the majority of his opponents were not the top fighters of the era.

In 1919, Mars began fighting against tougher opponents and in November of that year, he boxed against Rocky Kansas. The bout took place in Buffalo, New York, Kansas' hometown and ended in a ten-round no decision (Kansas would win the world lightweight title in the 1920s). The following year, Mars fought another top lightweight, Red Cap Wilson -- the bout ended in a 12-round draw.

In the mid-1920s, Mars continued to fight top competition. In August 1923, he fought another lightweight, Sammy Mandell. The bout ended in a ten-round no decision -- Mandell won the world title later in the decade. The following year, Mars fought Lew Tendler, a great lightweight and one of the best Jewish fighters in history. Although the bout ended in a ten-round no decision, the New York Times reported a popular decision in favor of Tendler.
