Career Highlights:
Berne began his professional boxing career in the early 1920s and in June 1921, he fought Pete Latzo (future world welterweight champion) to a ten-round no decision. Two years later, Berne fought another future world champion, lightweight Rocky Kansas, and lost a ten-round decision. Within two weeks, Sammy fought future lightweight champ Jimmy Goodrich (who lost the lightweight crown to Kansas in 1925) and lost another ten-round decision.
