A flyweight, Dechter fought flyweight contender Benny Schwartz three times in the span of two months. In November 1921, the two fighters squared off in Schwartz's hometown of Baltimore. The bout ended in a six-round draw. The following month, they again in Baltimore and this time, Dechter captured a six-round decision. Then, in January 1922, they fought a third time, with Dechter again winning a six-round decision.
