According to a unknown boxing record, Sterns fought 59 times between 1919-1929 and won 29 fights (10 knockouts), lost five times, had three draws, and 21 no decisions. In 1924, he fought top welterweight Sergeant Sammy Baker in Mineola, New York (a town on Long Island that was Baker's hometown), but was knocked out in the first round.
