Career Highlights:
Starting his career with 100 amateur fights, Cohen compiled a record of 92 wins and 8 losses before turning professional in 1976, as a junior-middleweight. After winning 16 of his first 17 bouts, Cohen received his first title shot in November 1977. He lost the contest for the French junior-middleweight championship to Claude Martin in a 12-round decision. Subsequently -- in November 1978 -- Cohen knocked out Jimmy Batten in the 3rd round to win the European junior-middleweight championship. Gilbert had one successful defense before losing the title to Marjan Benes in March 1979, when he was knocked out in the 4th round. Cohen retired later that year.
