Career Highlights:
As a featherweight in the late 1920s, Dorfman faced some of the toughest fighters of his era. He began his career with spectacular success, going undefeated in his first 43 fights before losing to Joey Sangor in a 10-round decision in January 1928. Later that year, Dorfman faced future world featherweight champion Andre Routis twice. Sammy lost both fights, the first one on a foul; Routis became champ in September 1928. The following year, Dorfman was defeated in a 10-round decision by the great Tony Canzoneri, who had lost the title to Routis. Canzoneri and Dorfman both moved up in weight and competed as lightweights. Canzoneri became world lightweight champ. Dorfman continued to fight until the early 1930s, but was never considered a major lightweight contender.
