Kahn, Ed "King Kong"

Edwin Bernard Kahn

A Southern Conference selection while at the University of North Carolina, Kahn played in 24 career NFL games. A second team All-NFL guard in 1936, he helped the Washington Redskins capture the NFL Championship the following year.

In World War II, Kahn served as a Marine lieutenant and died of wounds incurred during the invasion of Leyte in the Philippine Islands.

Career Highlights:
Kahn played guard at North Carolina before moving to the Redskins in the NFL. During his first two years in college, the Tar Heels had a combined record of 7-10-2. In 1934, the team turned things around and finished with a record of 7-1-1, second in the Southern Conference. Kahn was named All-Southern honorable mention.

After graduating in 1935, Kahn joined the Boston Redskins of the NFL. In 1936, Kahn played guard and was named second team All-NFL as the Redskins had a record of 7-5 (the franchise's first winning season) and made the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. In the NFL Championship game, they faced the Green Bay Packers. On the tenth play of the game, Packers lineman Lou Gordon recovered a Redskins fumble at midfield. Three plays later, the Packers scored and never looked back. They defeated Kahn and the Redskins in the title game, 21-6.

The following year, the Redskins moved to Washington. Kahn played in 10 games and the Redskins finished the regular season with a record of 8-3. They returned to the NFL Championship, this time defeating the Chicago Bears, 28-21. Kahn retired after the 1937 season, having played in 24 career games.
