William W. Stein

Stein enjoyed a terrific college career at Georgia Tech, where he was a third team All-America quarterback, then became an NFL referee from 1961-1963. He also served as president of the Touchdown Club of New York City.

Career Highlights:
Stein played quarterback and fullback at Georgia Tech for three seasons. After a mediocre season in 1941 (3-6-0), the Yellow Jackets rebounded the following year and won their first nine games before falling to Georgia 35-0 in the final game of the season. They finished second in the SEC (4-1-0, 9-1-0 overall) and were ranked No. 5 in the country. In the 1942 Cotton Bowl, Tech lost to No. 11 Texas, 14-7. In 1943, Stein was named All-America third team quarterback and Tech had a record of 8-3-0 (3-0-0 in the SEC for first place). In the Sugar Bowl, No. 13 Tech defeated No. 15 Tulsa, 20-18, as Stein capped a stellar college career.
