In 1916, Bernstein was the first Jew at NYU to captain the football team.

Career Highlights:
Nicknamed 'Rub,' Bernstein was a fullback who attended Curtis High School in New York before his collegiate career. Bernstein began his NYU career in 1913. Captain of the football team in 1916, Bernstein graduated from the NYU School of Law the following year (he was president of his class). One of his teammates on NYU was lineman Morris Sokolower.
