Shorten, Harry

Shorten played at New York University for three seasons in the 1930s and was one of the top receivers in the nation as a junior in 1937. That season, the New York Times, described Shorten as, "Violet's best blocker, speedy, and a great pass receiver."

Career Highlights:
Shorten began his varsity football career at NYU in 1936 as a sophomore, where he was a starter in the backfield for much of the season as the Violets had a record of 5-3-1. In the final game of the year, they upset No. 15 Fordham 7-6. The following year, Shorten was ranked fifth in the nation as a receiver with 23 catches for 323 yards as NYU had a record of 5-4-0. This occured even though Shorten missed the final three games of the season with a broken ankle. He returned to NYU in 1938 as a senior - the Violets had a record of 4-4-0.
