Birth and Death Dates:
b. April 6, 1915- d. May 1976

Career Highlights:
In 1936 and 1937, the Cyclones had a combined record of 6-9-2. Entering the 1938 season, few thought Iowa State would be much better than the Cyclone teams of previous years; Iowa State had won only five Big Six Conference games in the previous six seasons. In the third game of the year, the Cyclones faced Nebraska -- who had a record of 31-1-3 in Big Six play since 1931 and had not lost to Iowa State since 1919. To the shock of 30,000 Cornhusker fans, Iowa State pulled off a huge upset, defeating Nebraska, 8-7. The Des Moines Register wrote: "Never did a team from Iowa fight for vicory like the Cyclones did...they kept right on fighting and got the sweet reward of the first Iowa State victory over the Cornhuskers in 19 years."

Iowa State won their next four games before tying Kansas State for a 7-1-1 regular season record and setting up a showdown with No. 4 Oklahoma for the conference title. The Cyclones lost the title game to the Sooners, 10-0.
