Career Highlights:
Jamien was a star player at Mercer Island High School in Washington (where one of his teammates was his friend, Ben Mahdavi). McCullum then attended Stanford University, and after redshirting as a wide receiver in 1997, he was moved to free safety for the 1998 season.

McCullum began the season as the Cardinal's starter and played very well. In the season opener against San Jose State, Jamien had six tackles in Stanford's 35-23 loss. In the next game, he started against Arizona and had eight tackles and one interception in Stanford's 31-14 loss. After those two games, however, Jamien served as a backup for the rest of the season as Stanford finished the year with a record of 3-8-0.

Jamien was moved back to wide receiver in 1999, and had three catches for 22 yards in the season opener against Texas; Stanford lost the game 69-17. Jamien appeared in nine games that year but did not have another catch as Stanford finished the regular season with a 8-3-0 record and played in the school's first Rose Bowl since 1971. The Cardinal lost to Wisconsin, 17-9.

In 2000, McCullum finally got his chance to play as a regular and had a very good year. Stanford finished the season with a record of 5-6-0 and Jamien was fourth on the team with 14 receptions for 250 yards and three touchdowns. During the season, he caught the game-winning touchdown against USC (University of Southern California). He was named All Academic Pac-10 honorable mention.

McCullum played in ten games in 2001, and had two receptions for 33 yards as Stanford finished the regular season 9-2 (6-2 in Pac 10) and ranked No. 11 in the AP and ESPN/USA Today poll. On December 27, 2001, the Cardinal played Georgia Tech in the Seattle Bowl, and lost the game 24-14.
