Weisstein was a fullback at the University of California-Los Angeles, and a second-team All-PCC (Pacific Coast Conference) selection during his career. He was named the team's outstanding senior in 1951. Among Julie's teammates that season were Myron Berliner and Ira Pauly.

Career Highlights:
A bruising fullback who did little running or receiving, Weisstein was one of the best blocking backs in the Pacific Coast Conference (predecessor of the Pac 10) during his career. As a sophomore in 1949, Julie helped the Bruins begin the season 4-0 and finish with a record of 6-3. The following year, UCLA had the same overall record and defeated rival USC (University of Southern California) by a score of 39-0. In 1951, his senior season, Weisstein and the Bruins finished 5-3-1 and were ranked No. 17 in the final AP poll. That year, he was awarded the Bruin Bench Award to the Outstanding Senior.
