Ashkinaz, David

Ashkinaz was an offensive guard at the University of Central Florida, and was named to the 2002 College Football All-America team by the Jewish Sports Review. David was a former junior college All-America, and his coach at De Anza Community College, Mike Mitchell, said of him, "He is intense and plays to the whistle."

Career Highlights:
Ashkinaz, whose father is Jewish, was an outstanding high school athlete in California, where he played on both offense and defense (he recorded 20.5 sacks as a defensive tackle) in football and also lettered in basketball and wrestling. An All-Mount Hamilton Athletic League selection while at Oak Grove High School, David was the league MVP offensive lineman and was named All-West Coast by CNN/Sports Illustrated.

After high school, Ashkinaz was a walk-on candidate at Arizona State University, but was cut prior to the 2000 season. He then enrolled at De Anza (California) Community College and became one of the most sought-after transfers in the country. Named first team Coast Conference and JC Gridwire All-American, David chose to play for Central Florida over Oregon State, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and BYU.

Ashkinaz enrolled at UCF in January 2002 and became the team's starting left guard as a junior during the 2002 season. In the season-opener, David held his own against All-America defensive tackle Jimmy Kennedy of Penn State, although the Golden Knights lost the game. Central Florida finished the season in second place in the Eastern Division of the MAC (Mid-American Conference) with a 6-2 record (7-5 overall).
