Barckman, Lester

Barckman, a back, played at City College of New York (CCNY) in the mid-1920s and then became a high school football coach in the New York area. Considered one of the fastest played in New York during his playing days, Barckman also ran sprints on the CCNY track team in the 1920s. As a coach, Barckman first assisted at Seward High School in the early 1940s and then coached the kickers at CCNY in the late 1940s.

Career Highlights:
After playing on the junior varsity team at CCNY in 1925 as a freshman, Barckman stepped into the starting lineup as a sophomore and was described by the New York Times as "probably...the most valuable player on the team...he is the best passer on the squad, is a strong ball carrier, and a good kicker."

The following year, Barckman returned to the varsity and helped CCNY defeat Upsala by a score of 80-0 in the third game of the season as Lester scored three touchdowns and teammate Bernard Bienstock scored four touchdowns (Barckman also tallied three extra points). CCNY finished the season with a record of 4-2-2 and outscored their opponents, 193-71. Barckman also played as a senior in 1928 (CCNY went 4-1-2) - he started at left halfback all three of his varsity seasons.
