Sklar was a three-year starter for the Kansas Jayhawks, including his sophomore season in 1933, when the team had a record of 5-4-1 (2-3-0, fourth place in the Big Six Conference). The following year, the team finished 3-4-3 (1-2-2, fourth in conference), and then in Sklar's senior season, they finished 4-4-1 (2-2-1, third). During his career, Sklar was named to the AP (Associated Press) All-Big Six first team as a junior and senior.
