Louis played three seasons for the Maroons, who went 3-4-1 during his sophomore season in 1925. The following year, Apitz scored Chicago's first touchdown of the season in a 12-6 victory over Florida. Chicago finished the season with a record of 2-6 as Apitz was named All-Western Conference honorable mention. As a senior, Apitz helped the Maroons improve to 4-4.
