Szendro, Oszkar

Szendro was a left fullback for BTC in the Hungarian League and was also a member of the Hungarian National team in the 1900s and 1910s. Considered the best player at his position during the pre-World War I years, Szendro was described by Andrew Handler in From the Ghetto to the Games as, �a calm and dependable defender.� Known for his great speed, and flawless skills in the air and on the ground, Szendro was also acclaimed for his sportsmanship.

Career Highlights:
A member of BTC during his soccer career in the Hungarian League, Szendro never played for a team that won a league championship, but he helped his club finish runner-up to MTK Budapest in the Hungary Cup in 1910. Two years later, BTC finished tied for third in the same competition. In 1909, the club place third in the league, its best finished during Szendro�s career.
During his international career, Szendro won 13 caps (appearances) for Hungary between 1908-1911. Among the games he played in was a 6-1 defeat of Italy in May 1910. Szendro, who was also known for a willingness to resort to aggressive play in order to intimidate strikers, never scored in his international career.
