Taussig, Imre

Taussig, an outside right (wing forward) for the club team MTK Budapest was considered the best player at his position in the 1910s. Nicknamed “Boske,” he possessed incredible speed, imaginative dribbling, and wonderful accuracy in centering the ball from the right side. According to Andrew Handler in From the Ghetto to the Games, Taussig appeared in only five international games during his career because he had a difficult time keeping his nerves in check and regularly took tranquilizers before matches.

Career Highlights:
Taussig began playing for MTK in the mid-1910s. In 1914, the same year he made his debut with the Hungarian National team, Taussig helped lead MTK to the Hungarian League championship. Although the league did not play in 1915 or 1916, MTK won the championship in 1917-1919. In 1914, Taussig also helped MTK win the Hungary Cup. During this time, he appeared in five international games for Hungary and scored one goal.
