Victor Peretz

Peretz, as renowned for his scoring skills as his wild afro, left his mark on the European scene with some fine performances in Strasbourg (France) in the early 1980s. As a member of the Israeli National team between 1973-1983, Peretz appeared in 24 full international games and scored nine goals. He was also a member of the 1976 Olympic team.

Career Highlights:
One of the greatest scorers in Israel's history, Peretz led the top league in scoring in 1977 with 17 goals while leading Maccabi Tel Aviv to the league title. The previous year, he played for Israel's National team in the Montreal Olympics and helped lead them to the quarterfinals and a fifth place finish. He was a starting striker in all three preliminary games; a 0-0 draw with Guatemala, a 2-2 draw with Mexico, and Peretz scored Israel's sole goal in their 1-1 draw with France. The Israeli team, with their three points finished second in the group brhind France, good enough to advance to the quarterfinals. Peretz then started at striker and played the entire game in the quarterfinal match against Brazil, who defeated Israel 4-1. Peretz scored Israel's only goal.
