Glazer, Yehoshua

Glazer was a Maccabi Tel Aviv legend and a player whose joy and grace will not soon be forgotten. He inspired the legendary Israeli Young Athletes book series with his athletic prowess and gentlemanly conduct.

Career Highlights:
As a member of Maccabi Tel Aviv in the 1950s, Glazer helped make the squad unstoppable. During that decade, they won the Israel League championship five times (1950, 1952, 1953, 1956 and 1958) and the Israel Cup in 1954. Glazer was voted the "Player of the Decade" in 1960; he had led the league in scoring during the 1951-52 season with 27 goals. A member of the Israeli National team from 1949-1961, Glazer scored 16 goals in 33 international appearances (caps). During his international career, he scored two goals against the mighty Yugoslavia in a 5-2 loss during qualifying for the 1950 World Cup. Later that year, he registered a hat trick (three goals) in a 5-1 victory over Turkey. Glazer remains Maccabi Tel Aviv's all time leading scorer with 134 goals (in all competitions). Yehoshua also played for Betar Jerusalem, Nes-Ziona, and Betar Netanya.
