David Sela

Sela enjoyed an impressive career on the youth circuit, including capturing the doubles crown at the French Open Juniors. He recently turned pro, and with his brother/coach Ofer Sela by his side, Dudi earned the ranking of No. 239 in the world singles (as of July 8, 2005), and No. 400 in doubles. At his peak as a youth player, Dudi was ranked No. 12 in the ITF singles rankings and No. 16 in the doubles.

Career Highlights:
Before turning professional, Sela enjoyed great success on the youth circuit. In September 1999, he made his first splash, reaching the semifinals in Corfu, Greece, on his own and in doubles play with partner Charl Meyer of South Africa. During the same month, Dudi reached the singles quarterfinal and the doubles semifinal at a tournament in Agrinio, Greece.

In April, 2000, Sela won his first title, the Haifa international title, with his new partner, countryman Idan Ben-Harosh. On his return to Corfu, Sela captured the doubles title while narrowly losing the singles final.

In April, 2001, Dudi reached the Israel International singles final, and won the doubles title along with Israeli Maor Zirkin. In July of the same year, Sela won his first singles title in Van Keeken of the Netherlands. The following month, he achieved a clean sweep of the Fischer Junior Open as he won solo and also captured the doubles title with Michael Ryderstedt (of Sweden).

In 2002, Sela enjoyed a strong showing in the Australian Open Junior Competition, reaching the quarterfinal. In April, he took home the Beaulieu Sur Mer trophy with a strong performance. Dudi's good form continued in the French Open Juniors where he cracked the final eight.

2003 was Sela's last year as a junior. He reached the Roland Garros Junior quarters for the second consecutive year and captured the doubles title of the prestigious competition with partner Gyorgy Balazazs of Hungary. Sela lost to Ivo Karlovic (who knocked Lleyton Hewitt out of Wimbledon) in the final round of the U.S. Open qualifying matches.

Dudi has won two tournaments in 2003 as he makes a name for himself on the circuit. In March he won the Australia F1 tournament in Tasmania. He beat local boy Paul Baccanello when he retired through injury in the final. In July he triumphed at the Togliatti competition held in Russia. He coasted past Argentine Juan Pablo Brzezicki 6-2 6-4 in the final.
