A member of Israel's swimming team at the 2000 Sydney Games, Meiri competed in two events. A butterfly specialist, he finished in 37th place in the 100-meter butterfly (55.38), and was a member of the 4x100-meter medley relay team. Israel finished fifth in its preliminary heat (3:43.39), and did not advance to the next round; they placed 17th overall.

Career Highlights:
Like many of Israel's top young swimmers, Meiri competed collegiately in the United States. In the fall of 1996, he arrived at the University of Minnesota and immediately helped the team. He finished eighth in the 200-yard individual medley and 400-yard individual medley at the 1997 Big Ten championship. That year, he finished fifteenth at the NCAA Championships in the 200-yard butterfly to earn All-America honorable mention.

In 1998, Meiri earned All-Big Ten Academic honors and continued to swim well for Minnesota. He finished sixth in both the 200-yard individual medley and 200-yard butterfly at the Big Ten championships, and then earned All-America honorable mention again by finishing fourteenth in the 200-yard butterfly (1:46.60) at the NCAA Championships. In 1999, he finished ninth at the NCAA Championships in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:45.78.

In 2000, Meiri finished second in the 200-yard butterfly (1:45.98) at the Big Ten Championships. At the NCAA Championships, he finished fifteenth at the 2000 NCAA Championships in the 200-meter butterfly (1:58.75) to earn All-America honorable mention. While competing for the Gophers, Meiri also competed internationally for Israel. At the 2000 European Championships, he was a member of Israel's 4x100-meter medley relay team (3:43.48) which placed eighth, and he finished twelfth in the 200-meter butterfly (2:00.83). He is a 20-time Israeli national champion and has held four national records.
