Krachevskaya was a member of the Soviet Union track and field team at the 1980 Moscow Olympics and competed in the women's shot put. During the competition, she won the silver medal with a distance of 70'3 1/4". As a basis for comparison, the 1980 champion, Ilona Slupianket of East Germany, would later become the first East German to fail a doping test. Her worst distance was better than the best put of silver medalist Krachevskaya.

Career Highlights:
Between 1976-1980, Krachevskaya was ranked in the top ten in women's shot put every year. Her highest ranking was No. 4 in 1980 when she threw 70'3" 1/4" at the Olympics; she is still ranked No. 19 all-time in the women's shot put. She is also ranked No. 37 all-time in the indoor shot put with a distance of 65'9 3/4" (February, 1976). Svetlana won the bronze medal in the shot put in the 1979 World Cup.
