Career Highlights:
Born in Brooklyn, Cardinal attended Valley Stream High School on Long Island before being signed as a free agent in 1961 by the Detroit Tigers. He played the following season in the minors and finished 14-7 before being sent to Houston Colt .45's in 1963. That year, Cardinal pitched well enough in spring training to be included on Houston's major league roster on opening day. Cardinal appeared in six games for the team that year before being sent to the minors, where he also played in 1964 and 1965 (for the Durham Bulls) - Cardinal retired following the 1965 season.
