Sidney Goldin

Goldin was a member of both the Georgia Tech Athletic and Georgia Tech Engineering Halls of Fame. He had a longstanding relationship with his alma mater until his death. After graduating in 1930, Goldin began working for Shell Oil, where he remained for 40 years. In World War II, Sid served as a Lt. Commander in the Navy and won the Bronze Star. From 1979 to 1985, he sat on the Georgia Tech Advisory Board , and received both the 1994 Joseph M. Pettit Alumni Distinguished Service Award and the 1985 President's Award. Goldin and his wife willed their entire estate to Georgia Tech to create an endowment for the Sidney Goldin Scholarships for Outstanding Scholars in Engineering and Science.

Career Highlights:
Goldin attended Georgia Tech on an academic scholarship, but lettered in both basketball and tennis. After finishing 10-7 in 1928, Tech's basketball squad improved to 15-6 the following year. Sid captained the basketball team in 1930, leading them to a 10-13 record. In 1983, he was inducted into the Georgia Tech Athletic Hall of Fame.
