Winograd, Mickey

Winograd played basketball at Duquesne University in the 1950s. In 1955, he was named All-America honorable mention and helped Duquesne to the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) title.

Career Highlights:
Winograd was a marvelous guard at Duquense and an important member of some very good teams in the mid-1950s. In 1954, Duquesne had a record of 24-2 and finished the regular season ranked No. 3 by UPI (No. 5 AP). The Dukes advanced to the NIT final by defeating St. Francis, 69-63, and Niagara, 66-51. In the final, Winograd scored 15 points, but the Dukes lost, 71-62, to Holy Cross (Mickey averaged 7.3 points per game in the tournament).

The following year, Winograd was named All-America honorable mention and led Duquesne to a record of 19-4 and a No. 6 AP ranking (No. 7 UPI). Winograd averaged 9.7 points per game and the Dukes defeated Louisville, Cincinnati, and Dayton in the NIT to become tournament champions. In 1956, Duquesne finished 16-9 and returned to the NIT. They lost in the second round to Louisville, 84-72. Winograd averaged 14.5 points in the tournament.

Winograd was drafted by the Philadelphia Warriors the 1956 NBA Draft, but did not play in the league.
